The Gates of Hell, not my favorite, and certainly not the way I think of Rodin. For me the 'Hand of God' sums up all that is creative, beautiful and unique about this awesome sculptor.

Hi Susan. SNU does have a souvenir shop. Last I saw, it was located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center, which is in the middle of the campus and just down from the main library. They were renovating a bookshop next door around that time, so the souvenir shop may have moved, but I'm sure it would be in the vicinity.

This is a number I found for it, (02) 880-5533, though you may not get an English speaker on the other end.

BTW, the first time I visited the shop I intend to get something like you described but was turned off by the high prices!

Quick somewhat related question re: SNU

I have a habit of purchasing sweatshirts/t-shirts from major schools I have attended or in places that I live or visit. Does SNU have a bookstore where one can make such purchases? My Korean friends say no, that no one in Korea is interested in such a thing, but I have seen a number of Koreans wearing jackets from the SKY group and other less prestigious schools. Any advice? I would love a SNU sweatshirt. Thanks for your time---Susan

I've found them at various local stores. Some were bought at a kitchen utensils/appliances store, some at a small hardware store at the markets, and some at our local supermarket.

They were only 3,000 won each. They're much cheaper and so much more versatile and lightweight than anything pet stores or department stores sell.

I recommend trying local rather than at the big marts. Good luck!

Where did you find those big grill pieces? I'm in Busan, and looking to make an enclosure for my rabbit, but the only grill mesh rectangles I've found are so small that he could easily hop over them. I've looked around Homeplus, E-Mart, and Mega Mart, and no luck.

Wow. An item is posted on an obscure blog in a little corner of the Internet about problems with a web app, and within hours the CEO of the web app company has made a comment on the post and offered an apology.

OK, now I'm impressed---more than that, I'm astounded. Apology accepted, Mr. Vembu!

I have to admit, I've been truly impressed by Zoho's feedback, rapid response and exceptional reach to every nook of the Net. If ever there was a company that is "on the ball," as the saying goes, it is Zoho. The response times and quality of support do say to me that Zoho pays attention to detail; they say that, even if glitches occur, you can be sure Zoho will address them in short order, as the issue I encountered was; and they say, Zoho will try to deliver beyond expectations. In my experience, the passion and commitment of the people behind Zoho cannot be faulted.

Mr. Vembu, you have convinced me. I'll start again to use Zoho in my daily life and we'll see how it goes. I'll let other people know about it's features, too. After all, Zoho is such a great concept and has the potential to be an extremely useful resource.

Stephen, I fully understand the disappointment. We let you down on Tuesday, and I deeply apologize. From our logs, we believe up to 12 users have been impacted, but even one is too many.

The software issue is a very rare race condition, which alas we ran into under heavy load. It is in a widely used software framework in the industry. We are analyzing it further and will share the patch to the original organization. We are not publishing further details until then because other sites using this framework could fall victim to the vulnerability, if a hacker attempts to exploit this race condition, for example.

We know trust is of the utmost importance in this business, and take this extremely seriously. Multiple teams are working round the clock on this, to ensure it will not recur.

Once again, please accept my humble apology.

Sridhar Vembu

All valid points, hitest . . . And you're spot on about some Korean woman actively looking for foreign guys. I get the impression that some of them see a foreign guy as a ticket out of Korea, or else a way of avoiding all of the complicated obligations and responsibilities surrounding Korean family relations (living and dead!). But often it's just because they don't like the attitudes of Korean men, or that Korean men simply don't pay them any attention. It's not always that they want a foreign guy, either; sometimes they just want any guy who is compatible, regardless of race (oh, except for blacks, apparently), because a decent guy is so hard to find. Dating foreign guys just boosts their chances. It's only practical.

I've noted that individuals in every human society seem to feel the need to project some notion of evil or fear onto external things---onto scapegoats. It's so they can establish that the perceived evil is not a part of them. But often that "evil" actually derives from a guilty desire, internal weakness or fear within. So, one could argue that the fuss made about foreigners seducing Korean women is a reflection of the Korean psyche, and thus a certain envy that dwells there.

Well, that's enough pop psychology from me. Regardless of the cause, the media certainly likes to prick that sore spot of foreigners having a little too much fun. More reports and scandals are sure to come in the future to keep us amused.

Oh, and good luck in looking for a legitimate hairdresser.

It seems that every article about foreign English teachers has to include a reference to foreign men seducing Korean woman (easily) and it seems in this case "corrupting" them further by inducing them to do drugs ( perhaps using the drugs to seduce them in the first place ? ) Why then, if Koreans find premarital or recreational sex, against their moral fiber, do they then fail to raise their children to uphold the same ideals? Who is the guardian of Korean morality? An easier question to answer is, "who will be blaimed for the lack of moral ideals in the current Korean population?" I live in a rural town with very few foreigners, but can hardly walk down the street without bumping my head into double barber shop poles. Who is responsable for this business flourishing? With double standards like these it is small wonder that some Korean woman may prefer to shop around for alternative sexual attitudes.

Preferentially have male children for centuries and low and behold, there doesn't seem to be enough Korean woman to go around. Who could have seen that coming ?

Perhaps it is just Korean woman having sex with foreigners instead of Korean men that has their feathers ruffled. Not much is said about all the foreign woman brought in from across Asia to satisfy the Korean mens' need for brides. Who would be blaimed for all of Korea's problems if there were no foreigners? Best treat the scape goats a little more kindly least they all leave taking with them the chance for Koreans to ignore their own contributions to their problems.
