Email Forwarding

Forwarding your mail is easy. It is done with a ".forward" file in your home directory (and in root, if you want), which is just text file you can create with your favourite editor.

  • One address:

You forward mail to one address by opening up your forward file and entering the email address you want to forward mail to. Make sure it is correct or all of your mail will bounce back to the senders. The top of the file with just have something like this:

   somebody@hotmail.com
  • Multiple addresses:

You forward to multiple addresses by just listing them in the .forward file separated by commas, like this:

   somebody@hotmail.com, username@gmail.com
  • Forward and keep a local copy:

To forward mail but also keep a local copy on the system, just include your username in the .forward file like this

   somebody@hotmail.com, username
